Mechanical Maintenance Engineer

This is a Permanent, Full Time vacancy that will close in {x} days at {xx:xx} BST.

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer with expertise in industrial maintenance and some knowledge in electrical fault detection to become part of our engineering team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the proper functioning of mechanical and electrical systems within our factory based in Steeton, West Yorkshire.

Salary: £30,000 - £36,000 P/A

Working Hours: Monday - Friday, 2:00pm - 10:30pm

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform regular inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs on mechanical equipment including pumps, compressors, motors, conveyors, CNC, and other machinery.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical systems to diagnose and resolve issues effectively and promptly.
  • Collaborate with other engineering staff to identify, develop, and implement maintenance strategies and schedules for equipment.
  • Conduct root cause analysis on mechanical failures and suggest improvements or modifications to enhance performance and reduce downtime.
  • Utilize electrical knowledge to perform fault-finding and repair on electrical systems, control panels, circuits, and wiring associated with machinery and equipment.
  • Assist in the diagnosis and rectification of electrical faults on production machinery, ensuring minimal disruption to production processes.
  • Work closely with maintenance teams to perform electrical and mechanical troubleshooting.
  • Work with production teams to ensure equipment is running at optimal efficiency levels, identifying and addressing any inefficiencies.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs and records for both mechanical and electrical work performed.
  • Support compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations during maintenance activities.
  • Work closely with the production team to minimize machine downtime and enhance overall plant performance.
  • Lead or participate in equipment troubleshooting and repairs during scheduled or unscheduled downtime.

Skills and Experience:

  • Strong troubleshooting skills
  • Experience in a similar role would be an advantage (electrical/mechanical)
  • Knowledge of mechanical engineering
  • NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering (essential)
  • Ability to work alone
  • Good communication with all colleagues at different levels in the company
  • Good eye for detail and quality​
  • A degree of flexibility required should a machine breakdown
